Register Today for Winter Institute

By Matthew Butts

There is still time to register for our Michigan Municipal Executives annual Winter Institute happening this year in Grand Rapids Jan. 31-Feb. 3.

The theme of this year’s Winter Institute is Building Blocks and the MME’s professional development committee came up with that theme because many of the session topics for the event have essential information that all managers should know.

We have numerous outstanding sessions and activities planned for the conference. The action starts on Tuesday, Jan. 31, with a pre-conference workshop on the ICMA Racial Equity Toolkit. Other topic sessions over the four-day conference include vetting your police chief; understanding what a police chief should be doing; what the future holds for local government service delivery; collective bargaining 101; EMS on life support and what can managers do about it; leading through crisis; mobility justice and how on-demand transportation creates opportunities for communities; land banks and brownfields; preparing for job interviews and avoiding mistakes on your resume; the perfect project and the perfect storm; and community round table discussions for small, midsized, and large communities.

There also will be executive coaching, a mobile tour showing key parts of the City of Grand Rapids, and other networking activities. Online registration closes on Friday, Jan. 20 at 5 pm and the discounted hotel room block rate deadline has been extended until Jan. 17.
