Professional Development Committee Update

Warren Rothe

Registration for the 2024 Winter Institute in Lansing is now open! The PDC would like to extend a sincere thank you to the MME committees who have put together a stellar lineup of content. This extra work ensures that the Institute will be filled with content that is: “For Managers, By Managers.” Committee submissions include a panel discussion from the DEI Committee, a history of MME from the Experience Committee, and an Ethics Committee session on ethics in an era of division.

Other content includes the return of our all-star Senior Advisors, a session on negotiating your employment agreement, and everything from health insurance strategies, infrastructure planning, and building dementia-friendly communities.

Attendees are encouraged to pre-register for our welcome reception and manager’s activity. Once again, these two events have been combined and will conclude the first “full” day of programming on Tuesday. The evening will feature trivia along with drinks and appetizers. Here’s a free fact for trivia: do you know that most Michigan communities can levy a tax (up to 2 mills!) to fund a municipal band? Also, not to be missed is the pre-conference workshop on crafting issue-specific communication plans. Communication is a core skill for all municipal executives, and the PDC thanks Double Haul Solutions for facilitating the workshop.

The PDC looks forward to seeing you in Lansing!
