Wow, the last few months have flown by and it has been a very busy time beginning my year as president of the Michigan Local Government Management Association. This organization has been invaluable in helping me develop contacts among my peers and helping me keep informed of new activities that are occurring within the profession. I’m looking forward to having a productive year that benefits the association.
I was very pleased with this year’s MLGMA Winter Institute. Every session was filled with energy and enthusiasm as we delved into numerous topics that help us be top-notch leaders in our communities. One of the major issues on the agenda was the rebranding of our association. The rebranding process began over a year ago, largely in response to a need to elevate the public perception of our profession and encourage young people to consider it as an attractive career choice.
The MLGMA Board held its first quarterly meeting on April 15 with a very aggressive agenda. Just a couple of those items were the next step with our association’s rebranding effort, the results of the association name change survey, and the possibility of renaming a fellowship in the name of Michael Young. Look for the details in the next edition of the MLGMA newsletter that will be out in early May.
