ICMA Coaching Program

By Rebecca Fleury

I was fortunate enough to attend the National Advisory Committee for the ICMA Coaching Program during the ICMA Convention in Baltimore. We had such great discussions about the wealth of resources ICMA offers around coaching and what state associations are doing in regards to their coaching programs. I was proud to highlight the coaching offerings of MME.

Following the meeting, Frank Benest, the ICMA Liaison for Next Generation Initiatives, sent out the “10 Tips to Leverage Your Participation in the ICMA Coaching Program.” By using some of these suggestions, they hope to engage more members in the easy-to-use Coaching Program resources such as the webinars and Career Compass columns.

Most importantly, they are encouraging members to recruit some well-respected members of MME to register as one-to-one coaches on the online registry “CoachConnect.”

Coaches do not have to be ICMA members.  Local government employees are more likely to seek a coach if they see coaches registered from our state. Please consider being a coach. It would be great if we could get five to eight coaches from Michigan registered. MME has many well-respected members that would be an excellent coach!
