Known as “The Only Eaton Rapids on Earth,” the City of Eaton Rapids offers unique access to rural and urban landscapes and amenities. Most visitors are drawn to the downtown, which is located on an island between the Grand River and Spring Brook. Easy access to the city is provided by M-99 and M-50, which allows for quick and convenient trips to Lansing, Jackson, or Charlotte.
Summer in Eaton Rapids is very active. The Grand River offers great fishing and water sports recreation. The city hosts free concerts and family-friendly movies in the evenings. You can visit the shops in historic downtown Eaton Rapids and explore the historic Miller Farms, which houses one of the largest collections of Scouting memorabilia in the nation.
Eaton Rapids has a diverse downtown business district where shoppers can buy a variety of items ranging from gifts, antiques, and flowers to knick knacks, spirit wear, and crafts. Visitors can also buy everyday necessities and services at the local pharmacy, traditional hardware, and convenience store. There is also a home decor shop with decorating services available. Make sure to stop by the local nursery for the best plants, flowers, and arrangements.
Eaton Rapids finds itself in a period of rapid change. Selected as a Project Rising Tide Community by Governor Snyder in 2018, the city has undergone significant planning efforts that include a new 20-year Master Plan, a Downtown Development Plan, and a 5-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The City also underwent a housing study revealing gaps between housing needs and available housing stock. The city is moving forward with a number of community development initiatives with the help of our partners at the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
The hard work and planning efforts will enhance the city’s current features and continue to make Eaton Rapids a much sought-after destination. The combination of natural resources and amenities make Eaton Rapids like no other place on earth.
